PTSD Therapy at CARE Counseling, Inc.

Helping You Heal From Trauma—With Care, at Your Pace

At CARE Counseling, Inc., we understand that trauma changes everything. It can impact how you think, feel, sleep, relate to others, and even how safe you feel in your own body. If you've experienced or witnessed something overwhelming and feel stuck in the aftermath, you may be living with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

You’re not alone—and you’re not broken. With the right support, healing is absolutely possible.

What Is PTSD?

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a nervous system and brain-based response to one or more traumatic experiences. PTSD can happen after:

  • Abuse (physical, sexual, emotional)

  • Accidents or medical trauma

  • War, violence, or natural disasters

  • Loss, grief, or neglect

  • Childhood adversity or relational betrayal

  • Systemic trauma (e.g., racism, oppression)

Not everyone who experiences trauma develops PTSD. But for those who do, the symptoms can interfere with daily life and relationships—and feel like the trauma is still happening, even when it’s long past.

Common Signs of PTSD

  • Intrusive thoughts, nightmares, or flashbacks

  • Avoidance of reminders of the trauma

  • Feeling numb, disconnected, or emotionally flat

  • Hypervigilance, startle responses, or panic

  • Anger, irritability, or difficulty trusting others

  • Sleep disturbance, fatigue, or chronic pain

  • Shame, guilt, or feelings of being “broken”

PTSD is not just in your head. It lives in your nervous system, body, and memory. That’s why therapy must go beyond talking—it must also help the body feel safe again.

What Does PTSD Therapy Look Like at CARE Counseling?

We use an integrated, trauma-informed approach that centers safety, choice, and empowerment. Your therapist will work collaboratively with you to develop a plan that matches your needs, pace, and goals.

Our PTSD therapy may include:

  • Psychoeducation and neuroeducation: Understand how trauma affects the brain and body

  • Somatic approaches: Reconnect with your body using grounding, movement, or breathwork

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS): Explore and care for protective and wounded “parts” of yourself

  • EMDR or Brainspotting: Target and process traumatic memories with precision and care

  • Cognitive and relational therapies: Work with beliefs, relationships, and meaning-making

  • Polyvagal-informed care: Track nervous system states (fight, flight, freeze, fawn) and build regulation skills

Every step is guided by the principle: we go only as fast as the slowest part of you feels safe to go.

The Healing Process

Healing from trauma isn’t linear, but we often see these stages unfold over time:

  1. Stabilization – Building safety, trust, and nervous system regulation

  2. Processing – Gently accessing and resolving traumatic memories

  3. Integration – Reclaiming meaning, self-worth, and connection

  4. Thriving – Living from a place of freedom, not fear

There is no rush. We honor the wisdom of your system—and celebrate every small victory along the way.
