School Support & Educational Advocacy Counseling at CARE Counseling, Inc.
Helping Your Child Thrive—Emotionally, Academically, and Socially
At CARE Counseling, Inc., we understand that school can be a source of stress for many children and families—especially when learning differences, emotional needs, or behavioral challenges make the classroom feel overwhelming or inaccessible.
If your child has an IEP, a 504 Plan, or you’re concerned they may need one, we’re here to provide counseling, guidance, and advocacy support to help your child succeed—both emotionally and academically.
How We Help Families with School-Based Needs
CARE Counseling supports students and families in areas including:
Emotional, behavioral, or learning struggles at school
Existing or upcoming Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
Existing or upcoming 504 Plans
Executive functioning, attention, or social-emotional challenges
School-based anxiety, school refusal, bullying, or trauma
Transitioning to new schools or classroom placements
Whether your child has a formal diagnosis or is just beginning the evaluation process, we help bridge the gap between home, school, and emotional wellbeing.
IEPs and 504 Plans: What’s the Difference?
IEP (Individualized Education Program)
An IEP is a formal education plan developed for students who qualify under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). It includes:
Specialized instruction
Measurable academic and functional goals
Support services (e.g., speech, counseling, occupational therapy)
Modifications and accommodations tailored to the student’s needs
504 Plan
A 504 Plan provides accommodations (not specialized instruction) under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. It supports students whose physical or mental health needs impact their ability to access learning. Common supports include:
Extra time on assignments/tests
Sensory or emotional regulation accommodations
Health-based or trauma-informed flexibility
Counseling Services for Students and Families
Our clinicians offer:
Individual therapy for children managing school-related anxiety, stress, frustration, or low self-esteem
Parent consultation to understand your child’s diagnosis, school plan, and behavior
Support preparing for IEP or 504 meetings, including understanding documentation and forming goals
Collaboration with schools (with your permission) to ensure consistency between home, therapy, and school interventions
Skills-based support (e.g., executive functioning, self-regulation, coping strategies)
We help families feel informed, confident, and supported in advocating for their child’s success.
